KATY LYNAM

KATY LYNAM

WRITER

Katy Lynam is an award-winning writer from the Midlands, who came to writing later in life after coming face to face with the Grim Reaper when she was hit by a car. Left with life-altering injuries and a new appreciation for life, she re-evaluated her existence and decided to make it even more difficult by becoming a writer.

With a passion for drama and a dark streak of humour, her work is rooted in working-class life, with all its warmth, colour and larger than life characters, trying to make a mark on a world that doesn’t know they exist.

She has developed original ideas for production companies, and her work includes Criers (Birmingham Story Engine) and The Tour Guide (Criterion, Coventry).

Katy is currently part of Birmingham Rep’s Foundry and the BFI’s Disabled Filmmakers Mentored Scheme.  And was part of Paines Plough Tour the Writer(2024).

Along with winning the Forward Film Festival's award for best TV script (2025), her writing has made her a finalist at the Birmingham Film Festival (2024), Studio21 (2023), and a quarter-finalist at Raindance (2023).
