COSTUME DESIGNER

MARY JEAN WALSH is a Costume Designer of mixed British/Caribbean heritage, originally from Lancashire and now based in Hertfordshire. With over a decade of experience across Film, HETV and Theatre, she brings a thoughtful, collaborative and highly character-driven approach to her work.

Mary Jean believes costume is an essential part of storytelling, using clothing, texture, colour and detail to explore the inner world of a character. She works closely with directors, production designers and creative teams to create costumes that feel personal, authentic and intentional, always grounded in the story and the world of the project.

Her recent design credits include BIRDHOUSE, winner of Best Story at the BAFTA-qualifying OSKA Bright Film Festival and winner of Best Drama and the Audience Award at the Leuven Disability Film Festival; WHERE THE LIGHT GETS IN, shortlisted for Best Drama Programme at the Broadcast Digital Awards and available on LUMO TV, Sky VoD/Sky GO and NOW; and THE SON AND THE SEA, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival, was selected for the Cannes Great 8 Showcase, and received a BIFA nomination in 2025.
